On the heels of loss number four, I think it's time that I start to journal about the journey I've been through in an attempt to get the family I have dreamed of.
I want to share for a few reasons. First, I think it helps heal my soul to talk about it all. And second, maybe someone else will sumble across it and it'll make some difference in their quest for a family.
I think the best first place to start is with the birth of my son. I was 22, and with my now husband for about three months before we found out we were expecting. We weren't trying, but we certainly weren't preventing. Quick, I know! Fortunately it all worked out and he is my best friend and my world!
Early on, I suffered severe morning sickness and heartburn, but nonetheless, pregnancy was thrilling and I thought it was magical. Feeling the baby kick for the first time was the most incredible experience of my life!! I screamed for DH and scared the hell out of him; I am pretty sure he thought we were headed right to the hospital! :)
I had some gall bladder troubles and had recently been released from the hospital. I was 32 weeks (but really 35 due to LMP, and his size when born. I got up shortly after peeing and felt something warm running down my leg; confused, I headed back to the bathroom, and there was clear fluid steadily running down my leg- at 32 weeks! We freaked and ran to the hospital!
I was met by a doctor who said yes indeed, I was contracting, but based on the tests of the swab they did, my water hadn't broken. I just had an infection. Skeptical, I went home and labored ALL night. The next day DH was at work and I was sure something was WRONG. I called and said he needed to come home and take me in. Once in triage, it was quickly determined that there was NO amniotic fluid around the baby.... well, no kidding, my water broke YESTERDAY!!!
At first, they tried to stop my labor with terbulaline, but eventually they let me labor. 12 hours, lots of back pain and a bit of hooting and hollering, Aidan Christopher was born at 12:03 am, January 18 2007. He came out in one push, and immediately looked like his dad. He was 16 inches and weighed 4 lb 14 oz. He was perfect! Since he was a preemie he spent two weeks growing a little, and then he was ours!!
He was a perfect, beautiful boy and still is!
